USA vs Turkey [Photos]

I went to see the United States soccer team play against Turkey in the “Send Off Series” before they leave for the World Cup.

On a bus, en route, I snapped a photo of Jay rocking his custom jersey. I tweeted it to Charlie Davies. Charlie Davies then re-tweeted it.

Nike Soccer then tweeted it.

Below are some pictures I took along the way.

Drums Along The Hudson

I’ve watched this festival grow over the past decade. I recognized some people from 20 years ago when it was a small festival.

I took some photographs. Please come out next time.

Google TV is Awesome

Similar to Apple TV, GoogleTV is a box that connects to your television set via HDMI. GoogleTV comes with a keyboard and a remote. Like Apple TV, this also can be controlled with your smartphone. GoogleTV connects to the internet via Wi-Fi and therefore has access to many of the web’s content on demand, e.g. YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, etc.

Sports and Fantasy sports fans will love Google TV because you can monitor your fantasy stats while have the game play via P.I.P.

Google couldn’t pass up the opportunity to show off it’s voice control and has implemented it here during searches a la Google Voice. This can eliminate using the keyboard during searches. GoogleTV runs on Chrome and Android, which means all of those wonderful apps can now be optimized for your television. The potential here is great.

I’m not saying this is the future or the next big thing or whatever. There are so many of these devices on the market right now. The line between computer entertainment and television entertainment is very blurry right now. When will it disappear?

Harrison Horror

This past weekend I was scheduled to see a soccer game at the new Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ. I had given my dad some tickets for his birthday and my family and I went. We were a party of six. I usually estimate weekend game commute times correctly. Not this time.

I live in uptown Manhattan, which is about 1 hour and 15 mins from Red Bull Arena. We gave ourselves more time than that to get there. There are two ways to get to Red Bull Arena – car or public transportation. (No one walks there because no one lives there.) We took public transportation aka the PATH train. I must say, normally the PATH train is great. Not that day.

Please click here to read an in-depth story similar to mine about that day. Unlike most, I actually did end up getting to the stadium. However, it wasn’t before I got separated from my party and after being dropped off on the side of a deserted highway south of Harrison.

I managed to snap a few boring pictures of the game:

Masta Ace the Coach

Did you know Masta Ace coached football at Canarsie High School? I didn’t and Masta Ace is one of my all time favorite emcees! I think even higher of him now. Who cares if it’s JV?! And Snoop has nothing on Masta Ace except football knowledge.

I’m not a fan of director Court Dunn‘s music videos but this video was put together well and held my attention all the way through. I watch a lot of routine artist interviews and for some reason this isn’t one of them. Maybe subject matter has as much importance as I’ve been saying.

And by the way, when Masta Ace said “football” he actually said “fĂștbol“, because everyone knows fĂștbol is the best team sport on Earth.

Apple vs Flash

Before I say anything, I must say that “I’m a PC“. Unless Apple goes back towards System Software 6, I can’t see myself using a MAC as my main personal computer.

I haven’t been following this Apple vs Flash thing or really this Apple vs Adobe thing but after reading Steve Jobs’ letter I was instantly more disgusted with Apple…and Steve Jobs. Everything he complains about he is guilty of. I’m not going to discuss that here. This post isn’t even about Apple vs Flash. I’m not a fan of any software that’s written poorly. What happened to writing software for hardware…instead of vice versa.

One thing that disgusts me about Apple is the public image it puts forward through it’s commercials and print ads, etc. Does Apple not reject apps? Did Apple not recently delete thousands of Apps? Does Apple deny app-access to mp3s stored on devices? Did Apple make Ellen apologize for a spoof video? Did Apple attempt to discredit Adobe Flash? Does a MAC dating site exist? Does a PC dating site exist?

Apple shouldn’t be considered cool and should definitely NOT be associated with creativity. They’re like any other tech giant out there willing to barrel over anything in their way. Whether it’s a popular tech blog or a great software company, Apple will do what it wants. And, these things can easily be blinded when followers can be considered religious.

Asher Roth – Muddy Swim Trunks

I’m not a fan of Asher Roth or this song but this video is much better than the plethora of “one-shot” music videos out there. They usually look bad, are insanely boring, and fail at keeping my attention to the end. This video is not the case.

Did they get permission for all these brands? Is this in some way influenced by Matt & Kim and Badu?

The Bill Hicks Story

When a comic is asked “Who are your influences?”, their response usually includes George Carlin, Richard Prior, or Bill Hicks. Bill Hicks is what Styles P would call “Your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper.” Bill Hicks is a comedian who when you watch now, you see origins of every comedian. During his time, there was no other like him.

Over the years, I’ve read plenty and scrounged YouTube watching the same few clips on Hicks. There’s not much. It was rumored that Ron Howard was working on a movie with Russell Crowe playing Hicks. That’s hard for me to believe. However, at this past SXSW, a documentary on Hicks was shown. It’s called “American: The Bill Hicks Story“. The film is told by people who were close to Hicks. There are also many recreated scenes using 2D for 3D animation.

This film looks good. I want to see it. Watch the trailer below:
