Recently, the Androids had more Daily Active Users (DAU) than the iPhones when it came to the Facebook App (according to AppData). Yes, the Timeline feature rolled out a few days early on the Android app but I don’t think that’s why we’re we seeing this first time surge passed the iPhone. I think this is a more a sign of the rapid growth of the Android OS over the past year. The Monthly Active Users (MAU) are still with the iPhone so the DAU might be a fluke. However, note the steady growth in the Android graph. Also, check the recent Nielsen Q3 numbers:
Magic Lantern claims to have support for HDR in their new firmware. Does this mean 24p HDR is actually 12p or did they achieve 24p HDR via over-crank like RED does? How are the two exposures interpolated? No current HDR video has tackled this issue so I’m curious to how Magic Lantern interpolates. We’ll see soon.
One of the dopest rappers, Homeboy Sandman, signed with one of the dopest labels ever, Stones Throw Records. I know it’s 2011 and none of this really matters anymore but I can’t wait for the new EP next month. What!!?
Check his page over on their site: Homeboy Sandman and if you’re in NYC this Thursday you can catch him and Joell Ortiz at SOB’s.
Google Currents is a direct competitor to Flipboard. I’m not sure what the Flipboard target audience is but after a full day of using Currents on my tablet, I feel the same way about it as I do about Flipboard. It doesn’t replace Google Reader.
Yes, it’s nice and flashy but if you’re like me and prefer simple easy-to-read aggregation of RSS feeds, Currents is not for you. As you can see from my Reader usage below, I’m a little crazy with some things. And yes, I blurred some sites because it’s embarrassing. So if you want to be more efficient with your posts/articles, stick to Reader.
Recently I attended a Louis CK standup performance at the Beacon Theatre. I’m at about 13 times right now. Ridiculous. Live at the Beacon Theatre was a solid set by Louie. I don’t want to be that hipster guy who’s always like “His old stuff was better” but I’m saying it now because it was. It is.
I feel like old Louie was less philosophical and more joke structured. Live at The Beacon Theatre was filled with bits like the one above. The one above isn’t funny (and I’m sure that’s why it was cut). I felt this way about the whole set. I would have liked these observations if I were in high school maybe but definitely not now. He had funny bits but they were more funny because Louie was delivering them and not funny because of the content. They’re just not new observations.
Granted, I will still buy the set straight from LouisCK.com for $5 via PAYPAL on December 10th. The ungraded rough RED footage looks great. The editing pace seems a little quick but I can’t wait.
Also, after the set I headed over to Big Nick’s to grab a burger. I went there not only because it’s open late but because I thought Louie might go eat there too. Sure enough about 30 minutes into my dinner, Louie walked in with Pamela Aldon. I congratulated him on the show and offered them my seat. Great laughs. Great burger. Great night.
The Strange Thing About the Johnsons
Directed by ARI ASTER
The trailer is great. However, I can’t find it anymore. All I can find now is a safe trailer. No bueno.
I recently watched the full-length film. It’s almost technically feature length at 29 minutes long. This film is about a father’s decisions regarding certain behavior in his family. It’s a well-shot interesting film. The acting was better than student-film grade stuff but not quite where it should have been. Supposedly this was shot on 35mm film. To me it looks like ungraded digital footage with film grain (LOL) but I have no problem with the look. The Strange Thing About The Johnsons bounces through many genres. The few times it went horror-film were the most entertaining. If you have 29 minutes to spare, give it a shot.
I’ve been on Verizon since my first cellphone. Yes, it’s unhealthy but it worked out in the long run. Awesome coverage and a good selection of phones. I should have known something was fishy when Verizon turned down the iPhone in 2007. I also noticed none of the Google phones were making it to Verizon. I was angry but not angry enough to leave. There are some great Android phones out there. With the announcement of a Google phone coming to Verizon, I was ecstatic. What could go wrong?
Ut oh. Were in debut month and still no official announcement from either Google or Verizon. We know it comes out this month. I can kind of understand Verizon’s lack of marketing but Google? Fishy.
Now with news of Verizon blocking Google Wallet from the Galaxy Nexus it all makes sense. Fuck you Verizon. You’re putting out arguably the best phone to date and you cut off its balls? NFC is why people Android. Its why iPhoners are jealous and you screw up such a major selling point all because you plan on making your own shitty mobile wallet system with AT&T in the future? ISIS?! Really!?!? First grade style spite?!? C’mon son. All the bullshit I put up with because I know the alternatives are worse. Insert relationship analogy here. I feel like no one is going to break up these carrier giants until we no longer rely on cell towers. So, can someone speed up mobile tech please? 4G is already slow in comparison to other technology so can Earth be a WI-FI hotspot already?!?

I recently attended a Comedy Central taping of Hannibal Buress at the Gramercy Theatre. I’ve seen him live twice before and was pretty excited to attend. I showed up over two hours early exhibiting a fiendish nature I don’t normally have and got fourth row seats in a setup where there are only 8 seats per row. Not bad considering the amount of people on the VIP line (including Buress’ parents, Chris Rock , and Todd Barry). About half of the set was new material but I wasn’t mad. Can’t wait to check the edit.
Also, I iPhoned Chris Rock before the show. Check the video above.
