A Free Man of Color

January 14th, 2011

I recently went to go see the last showing of A Free Man of Color at Lincoln Center. I bought tickets the afternoon of the showing and sat in the fourth row. Because the theater is so small and circular, one feels very intimate with the star-studded cast.

The play takes place during the beginning of the United States of America and follows the conflicts of a wealthy man of color during that time. Mos Def portrays a slave. It’s the best acting I’ve ever seen him do.

I wish there was more melodic music but what was there was great and served it’s purpose. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.
