Thomas Suarez – 6th Grade iPhone App Developer

November 15th, 2011

Thomas Suarez is a 6th grader who has apps in the iOS App Store. This is an interesting telling of the times. Thomas isn’t your normal code nerd. His apps aren’t difficult to code. Yet this 6th grader has apps in the App Store.

I coded in school in a few different basic languages from the 4th grade on, as I’m sure Thomas did. Many of my friends did too – both now and then. What’s interesting is the accessibility Thomas has to the world. Even if I coded a killer application/game back then, there’s no way I’d be able to get it around the world for under $100. Thomas Suarez did that on more than one occasion. His Earth Fortune app simply randomizes your fortune for the day and dictates it to you by changing the color of an Earth picture. This kind of project is something all 6th graders have the capacity to complete and probably should. 2007 marked the beginning of the rapid increase in mobile app development. We can now include our children in this wave.
